It is simply amazing how much the game improved through the SE version. In this cae I shall compare the two.

The SE version had excellent graphics, this normal version uses mostly default MZX characters and the graphics are not very appealing at all.

The SE version had a high quality soundtrack, all the songs composed by the AD Staff. The normal version just uses music from other games or sites not bad but most the sounds don't really sound good and seem out of place.

The plot and gameplay remain unchanged, except the location of one item is different really. Ther plot is exactly the same overall, decent but in some ways rather cliche. I'm pretty sure one of the secret areas were added in SE version though.

Thats it really, the original version is pretty bad overall and I highly recommend the SE version over this however if you want to see the game's roots by all means try it if you wish.

This is my own personal classic - for me, this is THE Megazeux game, the one I always go back to whenever I decide to download MZX again every couple of years. The soundtrack even gives me shivers; perhaps because this was the first game I played (when I was about 12), and I promptly emailed Darren Hewer after I'd completed it, to ask if I could join Destiny Software. Unfortunately, my dreams were shattered by him telling me he hadn't touched Megazeux for years...!

For someone newly embracing Megazeux in this day and age, playing this game perhaps wouldn't offer much. It's the kind of game you had to play in the 90s, on the back of all those Shareware disks you grew up with. It was simple yet thoroughly engaging; it was a very personal, very human creation which left me awe-struck and desperate to try and create something myself. I felt a connection not only to the protagonist, but to the author. It showed me that stories are written by people, and that games are created by people, and that I could be one of those people.

Don't expect flashy graphics, but expect clarity and an almost blissful visual simplicity. And of course, expect a simple but 'nice' storyline about honour and chivalry that you can take as seriously as you want.

A true classic.
